SRINAGAR Real Kashmir Football Club- a Srinagar based professional club- Wednesday created history, becoming the first club from Jammu and Kashmir to win second Division I-League.
Real pocketed the silverware- one of the premier tournaments in Indian domestic circuit-after it beat star-studded Hindustan Football Club 3-2 in the finals played at Bengaluru.
Two clubs from J&K-Real Kashmir Football Club and Lone Star Kashmir Football Club- took part in the tournament, but the latter had a torrid time making an early exit.
Real Kashmir, however, showed character and class to emerge as the consistent side in the tournament, culminating their campaign with a historic win over Hindustan Football Club.
The win has ensured Real Kashmir Football Club make it to the first division of the tournament-a first for any Jammu and Kashmir club.
In a summit clash, both teams showed hunger and determination to get over the line but it was Real Kashmir that won the crucial phases of the game to take home the trophy.
Real Kashmir put up an all-round show but it was striker Ifham Tariq Mir, midfielders Danish Farooq and Nadong Bhutia who stole the show scoring a goal apiece to help their side edge past Hindustan Football Club.
The title victory brought joy to the football fans in Jammu and Kashmir-valley in specific-with congratulatory messages lacing social networking sites.
