SRINAGAR: The inspector general of the police (IGP) for Kashmir, SM Sahay, on Wednesday said that his force had been directed to exercise maximum restraint while tackling any law and order situation.
He said that decisions on relaxations in curfew-bound areas would be taken at the local level by district authorities, after evaluating the situation from time-to-time.
In areas where relaxation has been given, decisions on extensions will be taken after assessing the situation, a police press release quoted the IGP as having said.
The availability of essential commodities is being ensured by the civil authorities at all district headquarters, the IGP said.
The police is always ready to assist in ensuring that essential commodities are made available to the public, if asked to do so, he said.
