SRINAGAR: Condemning the firing incidents at Watergam, Rafiabad in which around four people were injured and one of them later died at SKIMS, CPI (M) State General Secretary, Mohammad Yousf Tarigami Monday lambasted the state government over taking people of Kashmir for a ride.
There are reports about the person who died after a boat capsized in Sumbal, Sonawari allegedly due to the police chase is also condemnable and outrageous. The incident needs to be probed by the concerned District Magistrates. He said in a statement and added that the government must ease restrictions in Kashmir taking peoples sufferings into consideration. People in Kashmir are suffering for want of food especially baby food items, fuel, LPG and other essential commodities due to precautious situation.
CPI (M) State Secretary, Mohammad Yousf Targami expressed serious concern over the deteriorating situation that has emerged after the execution of Mohammad Afzal Guru. We reiterate our view point that the decision has been taken in haste and keeping the narrow interests into consideration. The sensitivities of Jammu and Kashmir have not been paid a heed before finalizing the decision about execution. He said.
Tarigami said that it is also unfortunate that the family of Guru was not informed prior to his execution and burial. It is out earnest demand that the body of Guru be returned to the family for the last rites. In principal, we stand against the capital punishment and it has been our consistent demand to commute the death sentence into life imprisonment. We apprehend; that this unfortunate episode may encourage tendencies and forces inimical to the peace process cultivated after huge efforts and investment. As the act is bound to increase alienation among Kashmiris, especially that of its younger generation I appeal all shades of opinion in the country to join their heads together and reach out to the people of Kashmir, if they really want to reduce the level of alienation. He said and added that the country must take some concrete measures to reduce estrangement and especially the wrongs committed so far, are not repeated.
He said that it is our firm belief that the alienation and anger is a breeding ground for extremism and terrorism. Any decision that can further increase the alienation is bound to prove destructive and will have long term political ramifications.
As the situation is un-predictable and simmering , discontent is brewing up, the state government must also take steps to prevent any further deterioration It should ensure treatment of people who got injured in clashes between protesters and the security forces across the valley and should bear all the expenses involved in the treatment. The police and the Para-military forces must observe utmost restraint while dealing with the protests. Any further causality will have a ripple effect and the situation can turn into a measure law & order problem. Targami said.
