SrinagarKashmir Harvard Under-16 Inter-School cricket tournament-first of its kind initiative- was inaugurated Tuesday by J&K captain and international cricketer Parvez Rasool at TRC Ground.
The tournament which will see some top schools of the valley vying for the top glory is being organised by State Cricket Academy (SCA) in collaboration with Amblin and sponsored by Kashmir Harvard, J&K Bank, Unibic Biscuits.
The aim of the tournament, organisers said, is to introduce concept of school cricket in the valley. As many as 16 teams are taking part in the tournament held under the aegis of SCA- J&K State Sports Council owned cricket academy.
Teams from Kashmir Harvard, Green Valley, RP School, DPS Srinagar, Little Angels School, Lawrence Vidhya Bhawan, New Convent, DPS Budgam, Vision School Budgam, Spring Buds Budgam, Tyndale Biscoe, Burn Hall, Khanams Educational Institute, SP School and State Cricket Academy took part in the inaugural ceremony which was also attended by star cricketer Parvez Rasool who is also Sports Council technical advisor for cricket, Director SCA Mubashir Hassan, Sports Officer Kashmir Nuzhat Ara, Sports Officer central Nusrat Gazala, cricket coach Abid Nabi, event manager Kashmir Harvard Sheikh Mubashir, managers of Polo Ground and TRC ground and various other cricketers and dignitaries.
Parvez-who held an interactive session with the players- was all praise for the organisers and felt need for strengthening school cricket in this part of the world.
It is great to see such initiative being taken and I think more such events should be held. The events at school level are good for the cricket. SCA and Amblin should be hailed for this. We need solid school cricket infrastructure in the state, Parvez said.
Mubashir Hassan said that his academy will never shy away from helping J&K cricket grow in whatever way they can
School cricket is such a great learning nursery for upcoming cricketers. If you have good infrastructure in schools, there will be more and more kids taking up the game. This tournament will help us unearth new talent, he said.
