SRINAGAR: Kashmir Journalists Corps (KJC) has condemned the police action against senior journalist Iftikhar Geelani and his family in New Delhi.
Iftikhar, assistant editor with DNA, and his wife were picked up by the Delhi special cell and taken to the house of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in New Delhi where they were detained for five hours. Their teenage children were locked in their house with policemen guarding outside.
During his detention, the policemen were very rude, threatening and warning him of dire consequences. He pleaded before them even told them that if they want to detain him, they should do it at his house or a police station.
KJC has strongly condemned the police action and harassment against the senior journalist who has been working in New Delhi for over past two decades .
This is not for the first time that journalists have become the victims of police atrocity while performing their professional duties while in Kashmir or in Delhi.
KJC has urged the union home minister and Delhi chief minister to intervene so that the journalists, can perform their duties without any fear. KJC has asked the centre to investigate the matter and take action against the policemen involved in this incident.
