JAMMU: The Floriculture department has earned revenue of Rs 3.39 crore in Kashmir and Rs 1.09 crore in Jammu till December last from its gardens and other assets in the state.
This information was given at a meeting of officers chaired by the Minister for Floriculture Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed, convened to review the function besides physical and financial achievements registered by the department .
During the meeting, a power point presentation was given about the organizational structure of the department , manpower in position and other activities regarding the beautification of parks and gardens .
The Minister was informed that at present 330 hectors of area in Kashmir and 245.7 hectors area in Jammu Division is covered under the commercial floriculture. He was informed that the department has established Tulip Garden and Flower Mandi in Srinagar, Whareboomi Park in Samba and intends to develop a mega Park at Bhor Camp Jammu. He was informed that Rashtria Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY), National Horticulture Mission for Himalayan and North Eastern States and National Mission on Micro Irrigation (NMMI) were being presently implemented in the State.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister called for creating mass awareness about the centrally sponsored schemes so that allocated funds could be utilized in full and benefits of the programmes reach to actual beneficiaries. He directed for timely completion of ongoing works, including the beautification of gardens and parks with special emphasis on the plantation of Tulip bulbs in Tulip Garden Srinagar, repairs and face lifting of historical Mughal Gardens, Pari Mahal, Chesma Shahi and Kokernag Botanical Garden. Peerzada also stressed that there should be no diversion of funds and the funds allocated for the purpose should be utilized properly.
Discussing shortage of staff, the Minister instructed for submission of proposal for creation of new posts so that necessary action in this regard could be expedited.
With regard to conduct of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings, the Minister gave directions for convening meetings and regularize promotions of all those who are eligible for the same under rules.
The meeting was attended by Director Floriculture, Jammu, Director Floriculture, Kashmir, Officers of Agriculture Department, Civil Secretariat and District and Sectoral Officers of the department.
