Dear Editor,
Being a Burn Hall alumni I feel outraged at the news making rounds that the Burn Hall School stands against any particular religion or caste.
My school provided me the platform from where I have learned to respect and follow my religion and any news about this prestigious institute is as fake as a three dollar bill. There for sure might have been a difference of opinion between the vice principal and the students but shaping the incident as Burn Hall snubbing students from offering prayers is a mere conspiracy.
Burn Hall School has always been an institute which has time and again given us great leaders. Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Moulvi Umar Farooq, being a Burn Hall alumni, would definitely not hesitate to talk about the remarkable achievements of “our” institute. My school has been one among the very few schools in the valley which has provided every kind of support to its students to practise their religious duties.
I remember every year my school was the first of the very few schools which suspended class work at 12:40 during the holy month of Ramzan whereas other schools which term themselves as Islamic institutes worked upto 03:00 in the scorching summer heat.
Being a Christian missionary school, I remember naats and duas echoing through the corridors early in the morning breeze. Burn Hall School showed every kind of support towards the local Muslim society during the 2014 floods ( keeping aside that it itself was completely devastated). If I had the time and opportunity I have hundreds of incidences to share which would trash lies being circulated about my school.
When the news about this incident started to make rounds on social media, few days before this, my land had seen severe bloodshed. People already outraged and furious, were absolutely in no mood to take such a stuff and this struck them and it for sure would not be accepted by anyone whose religion was being targeted. But the biggest thing was that the incident hadn’t happened the way it was presented and taken by the general public. Mere words of one person mean absolutely nothing for any true Muslim as our religion has always taught us to be liberal. Moreover, opinion of one person cant be taken as an opinion of a particular institute.
I just want to appeal to general public that please don’t pay heed to rumours and if anyone really wants to see the attitude of my school towards any religion then let them, on the day of any event, at around 01, visit my school and just experience how the sounds of music vanish and utter silence engulfs the surroundings and what follows is the beautiful sound of Azaan, which mesmerises each and every soul no matter to which religion that soul belongs to.
