Apropos news report Yatra Extended To 55 Days, Room For 8 Lakh Pilgrims. (KO Feb 01)
History will confirm the original inhabitants of Kashmir were Budhists and Hindus. Kashmir, by its derivation, is a Sanskrit word, and in some contexts has its reference in the Hindu religious books well before the dawn of many other religions or their advent in the state. This historical fact is NOT restricted to 65 years, but well before that time. For example, a horde of vagrant escaping persecution from Gilan or invaders from Afghanistan or other countries can never be the original inhabitants of Kashmir. Period. Yes, Buddhists and Hindus are and will always remain the original inhabitants of Kashmir. No one can change it.
India remains a secular state. It is no more ruled by the Mugals but by the democratic rule comprising people of all faiths. Kashmir has the same pattern. Every citizen of the state as in any country has some rights, and with it come their obligations to the state. Those who incite terrorism, those who support and inhabitate these elements, in my view, do not meet their obligations of a good citizen. This affects good governance. So, their rights may get compromised at some time. Now the administrative rules will come in to place otherwise we will have a jungle rule. This is a universal fact. We must understand it and not blame others if we do not conduct ourselves well.
The number of people and days for Amarnath Yatra has been determined. Let there be no state within the state. This applies to the Board or any one else, and not even excluding Hurriyat (G). If it is not feasible to do yatra reasonably well this year, it should certainly be reviewed, and accordingly reduced as deemed fit. But we must allow it to take place. Any health concerns of yatris must be considered appropriately – be it before, during and after. This can be similar to Haj visit. If there are any medical facilities available locally, that may further help in this matter to ensure total compliance as well as providing health facilities to the older people. We must also take care of our own people with poor health and deadly diseases. We should try to care for them in Kashmir. Should we stop sending such Kashmiri sick people to India or should they stop accepting them? Give a thought!
Let us keep Kashmir a peaceful place for its people.
