SRINAGAR: To review the educational status of schedule tribes Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon chaired a meeting of officers here today.
The meeting among others was attended by Director School Education, Kashmir, Director Tribal Affairs J&K, Dean Students Welfare Kashmir University, Project Director, Department of Sociology, Kashmir University, besides all Deputy Commissioners of the Valley attended the meeting through Video Conference.
The meeting was told that as many as 1,23,853 tribal students are enrolled in various educational institutions out of whom 84,491 including 38,147 girl students have been provided scholarships to the tune of Rs. 492 lakhs.
Dr. Samoon stressed that scholars appointed by the University of Kashmir for ensuing field study about the education status of tribal people, should collect data from primary sources and shall prepare a tribal affair profile regarding their socio-economic status.
Emphasizing for better educational infrastructure besides accommodation, Dr. Samoon stressed that educational status of tribal population can be improved by the provisions of hostel facilities, use of remedial teaching methods in addition to the provision of scholarships to the tribal students. He also enjoined upon the officers of Education department to monitor the progress of the mobile as well as seasonal schools established for the tribal population.
To arrest the dropout rates from secondary to higher secondary levels the tribal students need a socio-economic support for which the Dr Samoon directed the University authorities to come up with the recommendations in this regard so that those can be implemented by the executing agencies.
