NEW DELHI: Indian nationals wishing to visit Iran for tourism and pilgrimage purposes can obtain two-week visas on arrival at the Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran and the Shaheed Hasheminejad International Airport in Mashhad, Iranian officials announced today.
The officials said that the Indians can travel to Iran without going to the Embassy and the Consuls of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India and can obtain two-week visas on arrival for the tourism and pilgrimage purposes.
At the present, the Indian businessmen also obtain visa on arrival at the international airports of the Islamic Republic of Iran after going through a simple formality such as being recognized by their Iranian business partners at the airport.
Every year, an average of 14,000 Indians obtain Iranian visas from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi and its consulates at Hyderabad and Mumbai.
Issuing visa on arrival is a step towards providing a facility to thousands of Indians who are keen to visit Iran for the tourism and pilgrimage purposes.
To enhance the people to people contact between Iran and India which share centuries-old cultural and civilizational links, it is expects that India would reciprocate this facility.
Providing easier visa facilities to Iranian and Indian businessmen is a must for the further expansion of the trade between the two countries which has always been emphasized by the officials in Tehran and New Delhi.
