POONCH: The Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone today said that the government would provide a special package to Poonch District for restoration of damages caused to infrastructure due to recent snowfall.
Special package of funds, under different sectors, would be provided to the district to speed up the restoration works Mr Lone, who reached here with Minister of state for Animal and Sheep Husbandry, PHE and Flood Control (MOS) Mr. Nazir Ahmed Gurazi and the Minister of State for Information, CA & PD and Power Mr. Viqar Rasool, to assess the situation, assured a joint meeting of District Officers, civil society members, Sarpanches and Panches, here at Dak Bunglow Poonch.He asked the district administration to furnish a detailed report in this regard to the state government so that funds are allocated at the earliest.
He also assured that matter pertaining to security and safety of the youth of the district engaged on Private jobs in Maharashtra would be taken up with the government of the concerned state.
Earlier, the Ministers, along with MLA Poonch, Ajaz Ahmed Jan, reached here to assess restoration works, post snowfall.Minister of State for Power, Information, CA & PDS Mr. Viqar Rasool Wani, expressed grave concern over damage to Jammu Poonch 132 KV Transmission line.
He said that HT power transmission line from Jammu to Kashmir valley over Banihal Jawahar Tunnel did not damaged despite 4-6 times heavy snowfall in the area but Towers of Jammu to Poonch HT line crumbled down merely by 2-3 feet snowfall and added that a high level inquiry committee has been constituted to inquire into the reasons and fix responsibility of any lapse.MOS, CA & PDS assured that additional 2 trucks of Rice and APL atta would be provided besides early supply of normal ration.
He also assured 2 tankers of k-oil and additional cooking gas would also be provided for snow bound areas of the district. Minister of state for Animal and Sheep Husbandry (MOS), PHE and Flood Control Mr. Nazir Ahmed Khan Gurazi assured that funds for restoring the damaged PHE schemes would be provided as soon as possible to speed up restoration of water supply. He also assured that Gen sets would be provided in a phased manner to operate schemes operated lift PHE schemes to meet exigencies as alternative to power supply.
He also instructed Horticulture and Agriculture Officers to submit a report of the damages to Orchards, crops and other infrastructure.
