SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon today conducted an extensive tour of Srinagar city and took stock of situation arises after current spell of snowfall.
The Divisional Commissioner was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mr. Baseer Ahmad Khan, Chief Engineers of various disciplines, Joint Director Information Kashmir and a team of divisional level officers and engineers during the city tour.
Divisional Commissioner visited Power Control Room at Grid Station, Bemina and reviewed the situation of power supply in Srinagar city and other districts of Valley.
The Chief Engineer Electric Maintenance, on the occasion informed the Divisional Commissioner that 40 percent of power supply has been restored in Srinagar city while as restoration process is in apace in other areas of the city. The Divisional Commissioner was also informed that restoration work of power supply in hilly and far off areas like Shopian, Damhal Hanjipora and Gulmarg etc. is in progress and power supply will be restored by tomorrow evening.
On the occasion, the Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering Kashmir, Mr. Shafat Ahmad Chishti apprised the Divisional Commissioner that mechanized snow clearance operation was started in the early morning of January 18, 2013 at about 3 a.m. throughout the entire Valley.
The Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering said that 100 snow cutter machines were pressed into service and all the important inter district, inter town roads including the internal roads of cities and towns besides roads leading to important installations like Hospitals, PHE and PDD were cleared on priority before 7.30 a.m.
The Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering said that the traffic on the major roads of the Valley moved unhindered and uninterrupted.
Dr. Samoon was also informed that 29 dewatering pump sets have been put into service by Irrigation Department in Srinagar city while as Municipal Corporation have also put their men and machinery to service for dewatering in low lying areas of Srinagar city.
Review supply position of essentials, the Divisional Commissioner was informed that buffer stock of ration, LPG and other eatables are available at different outlets of CA&PD.
The Divisional Commissioner also visited Dargah Hazratbal and took stock of the facilities being provided to the devotees during the auspicious days of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).
