SRINAGAR: Hurriyat (M) leaders not under security cover have been offered government protection after their Pakistan visit, reports said on Friday.
Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, who is a member of the Hurriyat (M)s apex decision-making council, said that officers of the police security wing had approached him offering guards and protection.
But I have refused, Waza said. I have a small house. There is no space to accommodate security guards.
The officers said that if my house did not have enough space, I would be given a government quarter, he said.
But I made it clear to the police that I did not need security, he said.
Another Hurriyat (M) executive member, Muhammad Musaddiq Aadil, said that he too had been offered security in the past, but he had refused.
If they (the government) offer me security once more, I will decline again, he said.
Both Aadil and Waza were a part of the 7-member Hurriyat (M) team that visited Pakistan in December, meeting the countrys leadership, besides the Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Sayeed and UJC chairman Syed Salahuddin (KNS).
