SRINAGAR: Crisis seemed to have gripped the new council of ministers right from the word go as its first meeting scheduled for Thursday was put off at the last minute today amid resentment in some members over portfolios.
Though several members appeared keen to attend their first cabinet meeting, some were said to be unhappy with their assignments.
Sources said that the cabinet meeting was postponed in view of the sensitivity of the situation and the mood of the ministers.
The government has given no fresh dates for the meeting.
SAROORI SEETHES
Meanwhile, former minister GM Saroori held the state Congress chief responsible for being left out of yesterdays reshuffle and expansion.
Now new-comers and novices will teach us politics, an angry Saroori said.
But the state Congress chief, Prof Saifuddin Soz, said that Sarooris name had not figured at all in deliberations right from Srinagar up to New Delhi.
Saroori, on the other hand, that Soz had acted like a wall against his re-induction.
It is Soz who created hurdles in my inclusion into the cabinet. He had threatened to resign from the party if I was included in the cabinet. He did this as he wants to weaken the party in the state, he said.
The state Congress is beset with lobbyism, and I became a victim, he said.
Though I accept the decision of the party leadership, I have lost confidence in Prof Soz, he said, demanding the removal of the state Congress chief.
Disgruntlement was evident on another front as well when Kafeel-ur-Rahman refused to take charge of his new assignment as the vice chairman of an advisory board, which carries the status of a minister of state.
