JAMMU: At least nine persons were killed and thirteen injured, some of them critically, when a tempo traveler they were travelling in, skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge in mountainous Bhaderwah town of Doda district.
“An ill-fated tempo JK06-1389 this afternoon skidded off the road near Bhalla when the driver lost his control over the vehicle and it rolled down into 100-feet deep gorge,” police spokesman here said.
He said five people died on the spot and 17 sustained injuries. Police, locals and Army on receiving information rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.
“Four injured later succumbed in Doda hospital taking the death toll to nine,” he added. The deceased were identified as Kiran Deep, 45, resident of Bhaderwah, Pushpa Devi, 55, resident of Dugli, Bhaderwah, Rinko Devi, resident of Bhaderwah, Sajad Ali, resident of Jharkhand and Asma Begum,24, resident of Sanai Khelani.
Nissar Ahmed, resident of Malnai, Bhaderwah, Shahid Hussain, resident of Malnai, Bhaderwah, Om Raj, resident of Gudsa, Bhadereah and Janki, resident Malothi, Bhaderwah. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed grief over the loss of human lives in the accident. In his condolence massage to the family members, Chief Minister expressed sympathy with them and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
He also prayed for early recovery of the injured. The Chief Minister directed the District Administration and the Health Department for providing all possible medical treatment to the injured. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo also expressed his sorrow over the road accident.
