SrinagarA day after a trial court deferred the verdict on multi-crore Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) scandal, the parents of affected students Thursday vehemently appealed court to take suo moto cognizance of the case and pass directions to re-examine it.
The parents alleged that the main culprits involved in the scam were never called for investigation while even after publishing a hue and cry notice against the kingpin of the scandal, he was neither traced nor arrested.
How come is it possible that the main kingpin will evade his arrest for such a long time while the fact of the matter is that he is still in Valley, said a delegation of parents.
Pertinently, BOPEE scam rocked Kashmir Valley in 2013. Mushtaq Peer the then Chairman BOPEE was arrested for selling Common Entrance Test (CET) papers for Rs 65 lakhs to two brokers, Sajid Hussain and Farooq Ahmed, who in turn fetched Rs 5 crores from parents of several students. There were reports that parents of some students sold their land to arrange the money. From 2013, police is still not able to trace the main kingpin against whom on the directions of court they have issued a hue and cry notice in Jammu Kashmir based newspapers.
The trial court will pronounce its verdict on November 28 this month.
Parents of victim students hailed the role of previous Investigating Officers but alleged that they were transferred under a well planned conspiracy. We are telling you with authority that at least 11 students who were involved in the scam were not called or questioned. Let the court ask police to re-examine the case, it will open a can of worms.
