SRINAGAR: Police have sprung into action against a YouTube video purportedly showing cops brutally beating up 2 youth in custody in Kashmir in the presence of an officer.
Said to be raging on other internet sites as well, the 2-minute clip has also been posted on the chief ministers Twitter account, with users asking for answers.
Authorities were mulling pulling the video down from the site, reports said.
Though the location of the police station depicted in the clip was not clear, sources surmised it could be somewhere in North Kashmir, and probably shot during the 2010 summer unrest.
The police have registered a First Information Report in Baramulla to investigate the clip and trace the users uploading it.
It wants to ascertain the authenticity or otherwise of the brief video, saying that it could have been uploaded with criminal intent.
The two youth shown being beaten in the video will be identified, and we will get to the bottom of the matter, a spokesman of the zonal police headquarters was quoted as having said.
