SrinagarA shopkeeper who claimed his beard was chopped off and Rs 1.63 lakhs stolen from his shop, faked it to escape repaying the amount debt, police spokesman said here Wednesday.
The spokesman said Police Station Batmaloo received a report at 0615 am on October 24 that some unidentified persons had come to the shop of one Farooq Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Majid Bhat at Kashi Mohalah Batmaloo and asked for cigarettes. They had reportedly used some chemical to render him unconscious and whisked away with Rs 1,63,000 before cutting his beard. He was taken to a hospital and was immediately discharged.
He said the victim was requested to report the Police Station Batmaloo to lodge a complaint. He refused to report though.
Upon conducting preliminary enquiry into the matter, we came to know the shop was located within the premises of the owner at Kashi Mohalla near Tahiri Masjid where most of the people attending the fajr prayers did not corroborate the facts narrated by the victim neither had they witnessed any suspicious movements in the area, he said. There seems no possibility of any non-local to enter the locality and indulge in such incident as the area is densely populated area with a police assistance nearby.
Farooq Ahmad had alleged that cash worth Rs 1, 63,000 had been stolen from his shop during the incident. The victim could not justify the presence of such a hefty amount in his shop rather than holding it in his house for safekeeping.
During the investigation, it has been noticed the shopkeeper maintains a CC-Account No.33 in J&K Bank Branch, GBS Batmaloo where from he has procured a loan worth Rs 1, 27,000. The shopkeeper has reportedly failed to repay the amount prompting him to concoct a story of beard chopping.
