Srinagar: Handwara police have recovered two girls who were missing since Oct 24 afternoon, from Ramban district, a police official said.
He said that on the afternoon of October 24, police station Handwara was informed about the missing of two girls Mehvish Mushtaq and Saboora Mushtaq from Bararipora area of Handwara in Kupwara district.
Police rubbished the reports of their kidnapping and said they had voluntarily fled from home to meet their boy friend in Jammu.
SSP Handwara, Gh. Jeelani Wani, during a press conference revealed that both the sisters had developed friendship with a Jammu boy over phone and had fled their home to meet him.
He said soon after police posted their pictures on social sites, a shopkeeper from Lucky Jewellers approached police and informed that both the girls had come to his shop and sold some ornaments against the cash payment of five thousand rupees.
We got some lead that girls had boarded for Jammu and Informed all the police stations enroute Jammu on Srinagar -Jammu highway, SSP Wani said. Police at Ramban spotted the girls at around 11.30 during the night and took them into their custody.
He further said that both the girls are on way back to Handwara and would be handed over to parents in the evening.
He said that both the girls were using their mothers phone to speak to their boyfriend during the night.
A missing report was lodged in police station Handwara and police took speedy action to trace out the missing girls. After strenuous efforts the said girls were recovered from Ramban, police said.
After completion of all legal formalities the said girls were handed over to her family members, they added.
