SrinagarThree officials of Block Pahloo in South Kashmirs Kulgam district have allegedly embezzled the money amounting to Rs 21 lakhs by using the forged signatures of the previous Block Development Officer (BDO), officials said.
The officials said that three officials identified as Ghulam Mohiudin Senior Assistant, Manzoor Khanday Works Helper and Shabir Ahmad Kohli Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) have embezzled the money amounting to Rs 21 lakhs by using the forged signature of the erstwhile BDO, Muhammad Sharjeel.
The erring officials have made 33 advises under MGNREGA scheme but no work was done on the ground. The officials while discharging the amount of 33 fake advises from the bank have used forged signatures of the erstwhile BDO, they said, adding that the amount, they have released were transferred to the accounts of locals.
Two among the account holders were identified as Manzoor Ahmad Kohli and Shabir Ahmad Kohli, they said, adding that it has been found that the money amounting to Rs 11 lakhs were transferred into their accounts.
Officials said that the newly appointed BDO for the Pahloo block prior to the development had sent a letter to Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in this regard, who had asked him to investigate the matter. After investigating the matter, the BDO has found the embezzlement of Rs 21 lakhs, officials said.
BDO Pahloo, Javaid Ahmad Sheikh admitted the embezzlement of Rs 21 lakhs by three officials and said that the erring officials were placed under suspension.
Three officials and a private person are involved in the embezzlement of the funds. I have registered a case in this regard at Police Station Devsar, he said, adding that they have so far recovered an amount of Rs 80,100 from the officials.
He said that the advices made by the officials were fictitious while no work was done on the ground. The investigation is still on, he added.
