SrinagarA complete shutdown was observed on Sunday in the twin districts of Shopian and Pulwama in south Kashmir against the killing of two militants and a civilian on Saturday.
All the shops and other business establishments remained closed while public transport was off the roads in both the districts.
Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants including the outfits top most commander in South Kashmir, Wasim Shah, a resident of Heff village in Shopian district, were killed in a gunfight with forces. Nasir Mir was second militant killed in the encounter. He had joined militant ranks in June this year.
The Pulwama and Shopian townships wore a deserted look as traffic was off the roads. Thin private vehicles were plying on the roads. The affects of shutdown was also observed in some parts of Anantnag and Kulgam districts.
Earlier, in the day people took to streets after announcements were made over the public address system of the mosques to raise slogans in favour of the slain militants.
People from Tral, Pampore and parts of Srinagar visited the house of Waseem Shah to offer condolences with the family. I have come from Pampore just to offer condolences with his family, he said.
With no public transport available, people were seen marching on foot towards the house of Shah
