SrinagarIn connection with the International Day for Disaster Reduction, an interactive outdoor programme was organized at the Fish Farmers Training Centre, Pandach by the Department of Ecology and Environment & Remote Sensing in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries.
It was said that goal of organizing such an event is to provide an advocacy platform to the stakeholders to demonstrate support in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and to highlight achievement and challenges in doing so with a particular focus on reducing the numbers of people affected by disasters.
The programme was presided over by Commissioner Secretary Sheep & Animal Husbandry Department, Raj Kumar Bhagat and was attended by Director, Ecology, Environment& Remote Sensing, Om Prakash Sharma, Secretary Water Resources Regulatory Authority, Joint Director Forest Protection Force, Members of State Expert Appraisal Committee of the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Faculty SKUAST, Subject experts, team of National Disaster Response Force, members of civil society and students of Fisheries, Wildlife, Agriculture at SKUAST, Srinagar.
The Commissioner Secretary highlighted the importance of conducting such awareness programmes for developing resilience against disasters.
Other speakers highlighted the effect of climate change on forest fires and also deliberated upon the methodology adopted in fighting the forest fires and the importance of Wetlands in Disaster Risk Reduction.
Later, NDRF team demonstrated the use of various techniques for Disaster Reduction.
