SrinagarNovelty Football Club qualified for the A-Division League finals while in Premier-Division fixture Lone Star Kashmir Football Club emerged victorious in State Football League 2017, a statement from Jammu and Kashmir Football Association issued on Monday said.
Novelty FC defeated Jahangir FC in the semis of A-Division League at Synthetic Turf TRC by 2-0. Right from the start, Novelty FC players attacked the opposite goalpost and kept their defenders under pressure. It was Zahid, who scored both the goals for the winning team. The Jahangir FC players were helpless before Novelty FCs fast game. When the referee blew the final whistle, it was 2-0 in Novelty FCs favour. The victory takes Novelty FC to the finals.
In a Premier-Division match, also played at Synthetic Turf TRC, Lone Star Kashmir Football Club thrashed Food & Supplies XI 4-0. Lone Star opened their account in the 30th minute as defender Karun chipped a pass to forward Akif, who made no mistake to convert it into a goal. The Food & Supplies players tried their best to score an equaliser, but couldn’t break the defence line of the opposite team. Akif doubled the lead in the 45th minute for Lone Star while in the 60th minute Ifaam scored third goal for the winning team. In the 85th minute, Lone Star sealed the fate of the match in their favour when Akif scored 4th goal for his team. It was dominating performance from Lone Star team. Akif was declared as footballer of the match for his performance.
In Super-Division match also played at Synthetic Turf TRC, J&K Bank Academy defeated Lone Star KFC Blue by 2-2 in a closely contested affair. Both the teams played aggressive football throughout the match. Abid opened the account for Lone Star Blue but they couldnt maintain the lead as Ateeb from J&K Bank Academy scored two back to back goals. Lone Star Blue team got several chances to score but wasted all those.
Football fans in huge numbers had gathered from early afternoon to support their favourite teams and players. They were enthralled by some spectacular football as most of the matches turned out to be closely contested affairs.
Meanwhile, seeing the response of the fans and the popularity of the event, J&K Football Association (JKFA) is making all efforts to make it count. The football governing body in the state has thanked the public for their overwhelming response to the event and hoped in future also they will do the same.
More than 500 football teams and clubs with over 12000 players and over 1500 team officials are participating in the mega event, first of its kind in the history of J&K football. The aim of holding such a mega event is to unearth the hidden talent across the state.
