SrinagarUpholding the spirit of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneur Development Centre of the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar in collaboration with the Srinagar Municipal Corporation hosted a cleanliness drive in the college grounds on October 2.
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a campaign by the Government of India to keep the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country clean. It is Indias largest cleanliness drive with 3 million government employees, especially school and college students from all parts of India.
This day holds a special significance and it is not a mere coincidence that this event was held on this date. The aim was not just to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti but also the birth of the man, the legend who had imbibed ‘cleanliness’ into his core principles of life, NIT said in a statement.

Not just in the principle, he also believed in striving, in treading and toiling himself to achieve that goal. For him, no work was derogatory, no contribution insignificant as long the path was one of righteousness, the statement reads.
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is not just a cleanliness drive, though cleanliness and sanitation are definitely its key objectives. It showcases a person’s humility, the strength of character, the spirit of equality and responsibility and above all, giving your surroundings, the earth that has borne you, that nurtures you, the care that it deserves.
