SrinagarKashmir University (KU) has not officially banned its student union Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) on its campus even though it does not allow any student activism unlike universities elsewhere.
In a written reply to an RTI, officials at the university have revealed that the authorities have not issued any circular or order which bans students union.
The RTI filed by J&K RTI Movement had sought a photo copy of the official order which bans student union in the university. However, the authorities have revealed that no such circular is available.
There is no such record or circular regarding the subject, said the RTI reply, according to reports.
KUSU was formed in 2007 by the students but was subsequently banned by the university authorities.
In 2010, when Prof Riyaz Punjabi was vice chancellor of the university, the administration demolished Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) office.
However, the students have been protesting for the resumption of students politics on the campus. And KUSU has been working in the campus but its members remain anonymous to avoid reprisals from the university authorities.
