AnantnagMinister for Revenue, Abdul RehmanVeeri, Saturday released a book titled Lamhaat Kay Saath authored by journalist Qasim Sajad at a function held at Dak Bungalow here.
Special edition of Sajads Urdu weekly Shihab titled Ye Kashmir Kis Ka Hai was also released on the occasion.
MLA Homshalibugh, Abdul Majeed Bhat, DC Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik, among others were also present on the occasion.
Several speakers, who spoke on the occasion, praised Sajads efforts for compiling important historical facts in the form of a book, calling him a beacon for the present generation of journalists.
Speaking on the occasion, Veeri congratulated the author for this important book. Saying that Kashmir has produced many brilliant journalists, he encouraged the current breed of journalists to be committed to this worthy profession, calling on journalists to be watchdogs of society as the profession demands. He said there is immense talent in Kashmir but that what is required is dedication.
MLA Homshalibugh, Abdul Majeed Bhat, while speaking on the occasion, said healthy journalism can play a pivotal role in nation-building and that journalists like Qasim Sajad have proven vital in changing the political scenario of the State.
Retired High Court Judge, Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani, also shared his views on the book, saying that the author has nicely compiled the historical facts. He said strengthening the fourth pillar of democracy is the need of the hour.
Senior Journalist Ghulam Hassan Kaloo while praising the author of the book said that despite lacking resources and facing lot of odds, Sajad has been able to compile a brilliant piece of work. Whereas renowned poet and writer Ghulam Nabi Aatish offered a critical analysis of the book on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik, said healthy criticism is important for constructive development in life, adding that literature offers just that kind of opportunity. He said that such events will be organized as a regular feature in future.
On the occasion, Dr Aabid Ibrahim Bhat was felicitated by the weekly Shihab team for his remarkable services in the health sector.
Various academics and writers were also present on the occasion.
