SRINAGAR: Noted surgeon and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Dr Sameer Kaul has offered medical assistance to the acid attack victim.
This was communicated to the victim and her family by the party president Mehbooba Mufti when she visited the young lady at the SMHS hospital here today.
Expressing her anguish at the incident Mehbooba conveyed feelings of solidarity to the victim and her family. She hoped that the perpetrators of the dastardly crime are expeditiously brought to justice for appropriate punishment.
While calling for strong administrative and legal measures to ensure safety of women in the state Mehbooba said the society also needed to introspect and restore the value system that used to hold women in high esteem.
The girl will be flying to New Delhi on Friday to receive restorative treatment through plastic surgery by Dr Shaheen Noor-e-Yazdan at the Apollo Hospital. All expenses for the treatment will be met by Dr Kaul who is a senior surgeon at the same hospital and has remained associated with a number of voluntary medical initiative in Kashmir, reads a statement issued by the PDP.
Tarigami demands harshest punishment to guilty
Strongly condemning the incident of acid attack on a female school teacher in Srinagar, CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousf Tarigami has said the incident should be taken as a wake up call for the government and the society.
This incident should not be taken in isolation but it reflects the state of crime against women in Kashmir. The police should not take this case causally instead complete the investigations without delay and make them foolproof so that the culprits do not escape because of poor investigations, Tarigami demanded.
He said the guilty deserve harshest punishment so that it acts as a deterrent for such incidents in future. There are many such cases which are gathering dust in the police stations. There should be speedy trial of such cases so that the culprits do not enjoy because of ineffectiveness of the system, Tarigami stressed.
Khalida demands exemplary punishment to acid thrower
Jammu and Kashmir Awami National Conference president, Begum Khalida Shah, has demanded exemplary punishment to the heartless, mean and inhuman youth allegedly responsible for throwing acid on the face of a school teacher at Paraypora.
No quarter should be given to the youth responsible for the incident so that nobody dares repeat such a heinous and inhuman act in future, she said in a statement issued on Thursday.
Zafar visits victim
Hurriyat leader Zaffar Akbar Bhat accompanying a delegation of Hurriyat functionaries visited the victim in the hospital. He expressed shock and grief over the incident. This is a heinous crime and it should be condemned by one and all. We strongly feel that we need to educate our children about the values and teach them to respect the women as taught by Islam, said Bhat.
