SRINAGAR: Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) under the jurisdiction of Regional Passport Office Srinagar, has issued around 61, 400 passports during 2012 mostly with full validity, an official spokesman said today.
Issuing on an average 270 passports per day the trend marked an increase of 48% in issuance rate of passports from 2011.
The office also catered to the heavy rush of Hajj applicants particularly during the month of April last year when Hajj applicants were issued Hajj passports against an affidavit only.
In addition to passport related services, the office facilitated hassle-free travel across LoC at Kaman Post & Teetwal. The passengers were allowed to cross even on non-travel days in case of exigencies with active support from all agencies concerned.
Pertinently, during 2012 Passport Seva Kedra (PSK) was inaugurated by then External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna & Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in presence of Dr Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Ministry of External Affairs, Govt of India has already acquired land for construction of new complex for Passport Office Srinagar at Rajbagh Srinagar.
