Tral (Pulwama)In a single storey house at Sikh dominated village, Chatrogam, people Friday continued to visit and console the family of Ratandeep Kaur (Pinky ). 28 year old student was killed along with an elderly local resident in a grenade attack at Bus Stand Tral on Thursday morning.
Kaur a 2nd semester student of MBA at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) died after a grenade apparently aimed at the motorcade of R&B Minister Naeem Akhter missed the target and exploded in the crowded market. Pinky and Ghulam Nabi Trag (56) died on the spot while 30 others, mostly civilians were injured.
Everyone who visited the family called it a great loss and expressed anger, frustration and helplessness, family said.
None of it seemingly gives any consolation to Babey Kaur, the 55-year-old mother of deceased Ratandeep, whose wails can be heard in the neighborhood for second consecutive day.
The father of deceased girl, Ritchpal Singh , former employee of a cement factory, told Kashmir Observer that among all my four daughters, she (Pinky) was my last hope as she was very hardworking girl and down to earth.
“My daughter Pinky was my last hope as she was my youngest daughter and was very efficient. Due to her efficiency she managed to get a seat in MBA at IUST Awantipora last year,” he said with moist eyes.
“We are devastated now after her death. he added.
Thousands of people, mostly their Muslim neighbours, batch mates and teachers of deceased girl from locality and the University, reached Chatrogam to convey their condolences to the bereaved family.
Earlier on Thursday, setting an another example of communal harmony, Muslims from nearby areas took part in the last rites of Pinky at her native village, where her cremation was done later in local cremation ground.
Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in Tral sub district on Friday against the killings of both the civilians..
It is noteworthy the grenade attack has been widely condemned by both militant groups, Hurriyat Conference and the mainstream leaders.
