Death of Infant Due to SKIMS-Negligence:CMs Grievance Cell Seeks Thorough Probe

SrinagarThe J&K governments grievance cell headed by Tassaduq Mufti, brother of Chief Minister Mebhooba Mufti, on Friday asked states Health Department to get incident involving death of child allegedly due to doctors negligence at SKIMS probed by high-level committee to be constituted for the purpose.

Ina communication to the Principal Secretary Health and Medical Education Department, Additional Secretary CMs Grievance Cell said he was under instructions by Tassaduq to get the matter probed thoroughly and responsibility be fixed. He also urged that appropriate action under rules be initiated against the delinquent medical and paramedical staff who were at helm of affairs immediate so to prevent such occurrences in future.

The Additional Secretary has forwarded complaint received from Mohammad Ibraheem Malik alleging that his son Iliya Ali was admitted in the SKIMS Hospital Soura on September 6 (vide MRD No. 999953) died due to medical negligence. As per the averments in the complaint, medical procedure was performed upon the infant the consent of his parents September 9 by the senior Doctors and reportedly the patient showed signs of recovery immediately. However on September 16 at 10.15 P.M. the Doctors despite resistance shown by the parents performed some other procedure on the infant which lead to the death of the infant at 10.30 on the fateful day. A formal complaint with the Senior Resident, (Control Room) for medical negligence by the Doctors have also been registered by the parents.

Medical records issued by the Hospital Authority seems to be contradictory which prime facie leads that the death has been occurred due to the gross medical negligence, the Additional Secretary added.
