SrinagarJammu and Kashmirs maiden state owned football academy State Football Academy Wednesday launched an academy in South Kashmirs district Puwlama, a statement from Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council-that owns the academy-said.
The academy was inaugurated by Secretary J&K State Sports Council Waheed Ur Rehman Parra.
Launched by Minister of Sports, IT & Technical Education Imran Raza Ansari late early this year, State Football Academy besides its central academy in Srinagar has set up academies in district Ganderbal, Bandipora and now Pulwama.
According to the statement, SFA management aims to establish academy units in every district of the state to cater three age-groups- U-13, U-15 and U-18.
So far 500 players have been selected and trained at Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora & Pulwama Districts and the SFA intends to target 5000 players across the State by the end of the playing season who will be professionally trained by head of the academy and star Footballer Mehraj Ud Din Wadoo and International Coach Sajid Dar, the statement said,
Addressing gathering, Secretary Sports Council said the establishment of Academy in the district was a long pending demand of dedicated footballers. He said more Football Academies will be opened in every district of the State

He said that the academy will act as major sports training institute and provide players a platform to prepare for Nationals as well as International competitions.
Parra further said that Government has initiated various policies under which the sports infrastructure of the State will be developed as a major sports destination. He said the Government is keen to involve the youth of the State in sports activities to boost their morale. He said various measures are underway to involve more and more youth in sports.
The Secretary was accompanied by Prominent Footballer Mehrajuddin Wadoo.
Meanwhile, State Football Academy was awarded 2 star rating by All India Football Federation (AIFF) which provides them berth to participate in major tournaments of National Level like Junior I-League, Youth League, IFA Shield Durand Cup.
