SRINAGAR: State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) has registered a case against Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) officers and officials in the uniform scam.
The officers Farooq Ahmad Mir, then Purchase and Procurement Officer, Leela Chanda, then Chief Accounts Officer, SMC Srinagar and others are accused of having purchased 2,289 uniforms at exorbitant rates.
A SVO spokesman said here this afternoon that the SMC officers had made payment of Rs 1,500 per uniform from a particular supplier after manipulation of tenders during 2008-09. This, he said, was done to benefit a firm M/S Gulzar Agencies, Abiguzar Srinagar for purchase of uniform of class for employees of SMC Srinagar which resulted in huge loss to the state exchequer.
During the course of verification, it has been found that these public servants in connivance with each other had showered undue benefit upon the supplier firm by manipulating the documents and issued order for the supply of 2,289 sets of uniforms at exorbitant price of Rs 1,500 per set exclusive of VAT charges.
The supplied uniforms were found under specification with respect to weight by around 20 per cent in respect of jacket as per technical report thereby again causing huge loss to the state exchequer. To this effect a case has been registered in Police station Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK) and investigation is in progress.
