SRINAGAR: After a brief hiatus, leading financial institution Jammu and Kashmir Banks football side will be in action next month after Chairman and CEO Parvez Ahmed gave a nod for its participation in ongoing Mufti Mohammad Syed Memorial Football Tournament. According to a statement issued by the banks media department, the team will play its first fixture on September 20.
Confirming the participation, spokesperson of the Bank while quoting Chairman and CEO Parvez Ahmed said that as desired by the Chief Minister, the team had been temporarily revived to ensure participation in the ongoing tournament.
He further informed that the bank was fully committed to overhaul the sports infrastructure of the bank besides nourishing professionalism in the governance of the sports activities.
A proper Sports culture is essential to nourish the talent and reap its long term benefits, spokesperson said while quoting Chairman and CEO of the Bank.
Meanwhile, Chairman has already conveyed instructions for preparing comprehensive plan for supporting various sports activities through infra-structural and other support to the deserving.
JKFA lauds J&K Banks move to participate in tourney
While hailing the decision of J&K Bank chairman to allow its football team to participate in the state level events despite hardships faced by the Bank, J&K Football Association (JKFA) Saturday hailed the contributions of the Bank in upliftment of the game of football in the state.
The contributions of the Bank for upliftment of the football in the state are immense, JKFA said in a statement.
. Despite post demonetization effects and other issues, the JK Bank allowing its team to participate in the football events is worth praise. We are thankful to the Bank chairman ParvezAhmad sahib for allowing the team to participate in football events, the statement read.
The J&K Bank has always been at the forefront to promote football in the state for the past several decades and we are hopeful under the dynamic leadership of incumbent chairman Parvez sahib same will continue. We are also hopeful that J&K Bank will form an I-league team like Real Kashmir FC and Lone Star FC, so that it can bring more glory to the state at national level, the statement said.
It also thanked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Finance Minister DrHaseebDrabu, Youth Services and Sports Minister Molvi Imran Raza Ansari, Commissioner Secretary Youth Services and Sports Hilal Ahmad Parray and Secretary Sports Council Waheed-ur-Rehamn Parra for their continuous support for the upliftment of the game of football in the state.
It is pertinent to mention here that JK Bank football team is considered as powerhouse of the State football and has produced some of the best footballers of the State which include Ishfaq Ahmad, Mehraj-ud-Din Wadoo, ArunMalhotra, Ramesh Chander and Jhonny Kumar, who are all of international repute. Abdul MajeedKakroo, who is a renowned name in the football not only in the country, but at international level, was also associated with the Bank team as a coach for almost two decades. The bank team which was raised in 1980s has produced more than 50 per cent of players who have represented the State at the national level.
