Dentist Held For Landing Job With Namesake’s Papers

SRINAGAR: A Srinagar dentist who had secured a government job with a  Scheduled Tribe certificate of his namesake was arrested in Kangan on Wednesday, the police said.

Two brothers, one of them bearing the same name as the dentist, too have been held for the fraud.

Identified as Jaleel-ur-Rahman Khan of Bota Kadal, Srinagar, the dentist was taken into custody in the Kangan bazaar this morning when he was heading for the tehsildar’s office in connection with the certificate he had submitted for some reason.

The police had gone into action after the tehsildar grew suspicious of the certificate handed over to his office earlier, and arrested the two brothers after questioning before pouncing on the doctor.

According to the police, the dentist had met his namesake Jaleel-ur-Rahman Gojar Teetu through his brother, Abdul Rashid, with whom he had struck a friendship while running a practice in Kangan.

The fraud came to the dentist’s mind during a social visit to Rashid’s house when he learnt that his friend’s brother too bore the same name, the police said.

He broke the idea to his friend – whose family evidently came in the Scheduled Tribe category -who took the other Jaleel into confidence, leading to a series of moves that got the dentist his scheduled caste certificate.

He was said to have later secured a job with the government health services on the basis of the document, and had been posted in Kupwara.   

When contacted later, the chief medical officer (CMO) in Kupwara, Dr. Abdul Majeed, said that the dentist had submitted his resignation to the office without assigning any reason, and that he had forwarded it to the director health services.
