SrinagarNational Investigation Agency, probing a case registered at the behest of government of India, on Thursday questioned Kashmir High Court Bar Association president Mian Qayoom for seven hours.
The lawyers body likened it to harass and humiliate the Bar leadership and also to intimidate and threaten them so that they give up their support to the principled cause of people of Kashmir.
A spokesman of the lawyers body said that a general body meeting was held at High Court premises, and members described that the continuous questioning of M. A. Qayoom by the NIA at its Delhi Office for about 7 hours and asking him to come again in the morning of September 15 is aimed at to harass and humiliate the Bar leadership and also to intimidate and threaten them so that they give up their support to the principled cause of people of Kashmir and their inalienable right of self-determination.
The spokesman said that as a mark of protest, the members of the KHCBA shall observe strike on on Friday and continue the same till Qayoom would return back from Delhi.
It was also decided that the lawyers would meet again in the morning of September 15 in the High Court Bar room to discuss the issue further.
Accordingly, all the members of the Bar Association as well as all the District and Mufassil Bar Associations of the valley are requested to support the strike call and abstain from court on Friday, the spokesman added.
In the summon, the NIA states that Qayoom was required to appear before it as hes “acquainted” with the circumstances of the caseRC 10/2017/ NIA/DLI under IPC sections of 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging war), 121A (conspiracy of waging war) and 13, 16, 17,18,20, 38, and 40 of UA(P) Act, registered at NIA Police Station, New Delhi.
As per the cases summary of allegation, it was registered after Government of India received credible information that Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, Amir of Jammat-ud-Dawah and the secessionist and separatist leaders including the members, cadres of the Hurriyat Conference have been acting in connivance with active militants of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Dukhtaran-e- Millat, Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and other organisations for raising, receiving and collecting funds domestically and abroad through various illegal channels, including hawala, for funding separatist and terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Through the funds so collected, they as such have entered into a larger criminal conspiracy for causing disruption in the Kashmir valley by way of pelting stones on the forces, systematically burning of schools, damage to public property and waging war against India, it reads. Meanwhile, due to the strike, the court work in high court as well as sub-ordinate judiciary was affected.
