SrinagarState Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the state government and Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences to provide an assistance of Rs 5.5 lakh to a poor patient suffering from kidney failure.
Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Lone of Gagal Lolab had approached SHRC with a prayer that he is suffering kidney failure and is under the treatment of SKIMS Soura, Srinagar, but due to poverty he is not in a position to purchase life-saving drugs from open market and prayed for financial assistant.
While hearing the case, SHRC member Jung Singh Jamwal observed that SKIMS authority, despite having the delegated authority, refused to provide the financial assistance to the complainant that amounts to violation of human rights. The commission observed that there was no reason that the complainant should be deprived of the same.
While disposing of the matter, Member SHRC directed the Director SKIMS Soura to release the financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the patient and also directed to provide free check-up and all test facility. He further directed SKIMS to implement orders within thirty days.
SHRC also directed the Chief Secretary of the State to provide Rs.2.00 lacs under RAN scheme and Rs.1.5 lac from State Illness Fund.
