Nations can make progresses by leaps and bounds if its teachers are sturdy in spirit and action. In common parlance we call our school and university teachers as teachers. But a teacher in real sense may be identified in all walks of life. We have all been influenced by someone, no matter what ones station in life happens to be. A teacher is a real builder of any Nation. Teachers who are associated with teaching are passionate educators who are tragically underpaid, overworked and under-appreciated. One enters the profession of teaching fully knowing that it is not a way to become rich. But a real teachers dedication and motivation is hard to crack and beyond the monetary gains. Teaching is a noble profession and teachers are noble souls. Teachers have a tremendous effect on our thinking and beliefs. The role of a teacher in society is both significant and valuable.
What meaning it creates to be a great teacher? Of course rich credentials, knowledge, critical thinking, intelligence are important. However, a great teacher is also empathetic, compassionate and positive. Great teachers uncover hidden treasures, possibilities and magic right before everyones eyes.
Sheikh-e-maktab hai ik emarat gar, Jiss ki sanat hai ruh-e-insani (Meaning: A teacher is like a builder whose industry is to build and develop the soul of a human. I am civilized, cultured, well mannered, tolerable, employable, best fit to serve my family and society, I owe to teachers throughout my life. But I was lucky to have had teachers who have been my role models and inspiration for many. The great men belong to different education fields, places and religions. I have been blessed to meet them at my school, college and university levels. I have found good teachers at my job place as well.
At my school level, my home tutor Late Haji Master Gh. Nabi Khan,Abba Ji at Anantanag was a famous teacher of his era. Almost every intellectual in the district was well taught by the teacher. I was fortunate to meet Abba Ji when teaching was limited only to his kith and kin due to old age. What I remember and was influenced most by Abba Ji was his knowledge, discipline and superior teaching abilities. He was above all a pious muslim and an exceptional leader of family. God should give every place in heaven to the noble soul. At my higher secondary level, Lecturer Mr. Nazir Ahmad Rigoo from my hometown Tral Kashmir using play way method and his friendly approach were instrumental. The good teacher related lessons to some real life examples with all fun and it made easier for students to grasp the lessons.
It is well said that a college life is the best life when it comes to learning different and real aspects of life. The one who has been an inspiration was eminent Professor and environmental Scientist, M R D Kundangar. The dynamic principal at Govt. Degree College Tral had all courage to believe in his convictions and possessed all qualities of a big leader. The teacher used to command respect through his selfless actions, adoration for all and an attempt to develop the institution as a whole. His contribution at that time could also be recalled in boosting our students union rights. More contributions can be recalled as shifting of college to new campus when there were many challenges posed to him. Another noteworthy teacher from my college was from a sikh community, Professor Lakhwinder Singh Sodi. The teacher always believed in instilling confidence amongst the students. I could remember how the teacher used to sanction me privileges to teach lower classes in the college. Those sanctions not only helped me but others also to be future ready. The teacher had good qualities to be student friendly and attempted every ones attention in the class room.
The best part of my life has been my university Life. There are rare occasions when the angels visit and take you to a much brighter world. God has been kind enough to offer me an opportunity to meet an inspirational Hindu teacher from Gwalior, Professor Yogesh Upadhyay. The genius and beloved teacher has been my research guide, a great researcher, eminent academician and above all a great human.What is more praise worthy of the great teacher is his high knowledge, expert in different areas, captivating speaker, Innovation guru, and a motivator. Professor Yogesh Upadhyay is a role model for many and known for his courage and wisdom. I have been given all good lessons for life by my beloved teacher whom I truly admire. The best teacher holds a more superior position in my life.
I have also received vital teachings at my job places and the one who is more respectful is Mr. Rama Shankar Singh, Honble Chancellor of ITM University Gwalior. The high quality the great man possesses is his being visionary, leadership spirit, a well known Edupreneur and known for philanthropy. One could find the high progress of ITM University Gwalior, ITM Universe Vadodra and ITM Global School Gwalior in a very short period. Those Institutions are well known learning centers, innovation hubs, known for state of art infrastructure and better facilities under the vision and dynamic leadership of eminent Chancellor.
Leadership is not about the position they hold; its about the actions they take. Its about having an ownership mindset. Leadership is about what leaders do, rather than who they are. Leadership is learned and relearned. It requires hard work and persistence. It is a lifelong effort to adapt to transitions and in the process to improve. The good teachers fix higher standards. They believe in simple living and high thinking. Their inclinations for continuous knowledge gain and spread, innovations, student friendliness and developments etc. make them great and worthy. All of them were devoted to their profession, and in turn, we students are devoted to them. Whenever I look back at teachers contributions in my life, my heart leaps up and demands more hard work and progresses in life.
