Education is one of the most important part of our society and my personal association with the field of education doesn’t allow me to write and think about anything else. It is a nourishment to the minds of future. We have to have a proper nutritional balance in order to achieve overall growth. Why in the first place do we need to talk about education is the fact that every nation is doing the same thing. United Nations in its 17 goals to transform our world mentions it in Goal 4 as “ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning”.
We have to setup a proper mechanism so that no one stays uneducated. Just like eradication of polio. We have to eradicate illiteracy from the planet. The right of children to free and compulsory education for children between 6 to 14 years has been inserted as Article 21A in Indian Constitution through 86th amendment on 4 August 2009. It is a mammoth task for our government. India has become 135th country to make education a fundamental right of every child and the act came into force on April 1, 2010. It is our social responsibility to help our government to achieve this mammoth goal. To begin with we can start by imparting education to the under privileged youth in our locality at individual level. If you are educated it becomes your responsibility to impart it.
Think of it in a manner as if by igniting one flame of education in any given area, a ray of hope will also take birth in that very family, in that very locality. We will be able to illuminate society, our entire state. So that we no longer stay exposed to fake promises and exploitation of things we have no understanding over.
Education has become very expensive affair. APJ Abdul Kalam in a book Ignited Minds said that it is difficult to ascertain the genius mind. It can be in a skull of someone who has no education. APJ himself came from the remote temple town of Rameshwaram of Tamil Nadu. He contributed by giving India indigenous SLV’s, which deployed Rohini in near earth orbit, Integrated Guided Missile Development Program, Pokhran-II Nuclear tests and much more and ended up in becoming 11th President of India. Had he received no education, all this would have never happened to him. Try to reduce this gap for people who cannot afford formal education.
In order to give you a little idea about competition, Around 17lac candidates appear in JEE exams every year for 11000 seats in IITs and NITs combined. Out of these 11000 seats 50% are reserved for categories like ST/SC and others.
Same is the case with medical field. 11.5 lac candidates appeared in 2017 for 56000 seats available in private and government medical colleges combined.
Cost of education in private institutes runs in lacs and crores. In order to have a professional degree one has to have a proper plan in place. There is no alternative to consistency. Therefore while imparting knowledge, prepare your students for competition. They should be aware of, what they are against. Ernest Hemingway in his book Old Man and the Sea rightly said “it is better to be exact then to be lucky”
