SrinagarTaking a suo moto notice of a media report, State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Friday directed district authorities to submit a report within four weeks on lining up of cars on Jhelum Bund near Lal Chowk here for want of parking space.
Taking note of Kashmir Observer report, highlighting damage to the Jhelum bund due to the illegal car parking, chairperson of the SHRC, Justice (retd) Bilal Nazki directed Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Municipal Commissioner Srinagar, IGP Traffic Srinagar and Chief Engineer Irrigating and Flood Control Department to file their response to the serious matter within four weeks. The case has been listed for hearing on September 20.
The report quoting locals said that the illegally parked vehicles have spoiled the beauty of the bund which is meant for pedestrian and not for the vehicle.
It bears mention KO had published a photo showing dozens of vehicles parked on the Bund, a prohibited zone on Thursday.
