SrinagarA family from Nowgam Srinagar during a protest raised fingers over police for bailing out accused responsible for torture and attempt to murder of a newly married woman over dowry issue.
The Nowgam family emerged in Press Enclave Srinagar and alleged that Police did not file a concrete case against the accused as a result they were bailed out by Court for a heinous crime.
The protesters told news agency CNS that Roohi Jan daughter of Ghulam Nabi Bazaz of Khanday Colony Nowgam Srinagar was recently married to one Arshid Ahmed Mir of Kadlabal Pampore.
Within the few months of the marriage, the in-laws including the husband of the woman started demanding dowry from Roohi Jan. They were demanding Rs 25 lakhs for house construction purposes. After her refusal, they frequently beat her and one night, kerosene oil was sprinkled over her body. She was saved by her neighbours though she suffered burn injuries, they said.
Roohi Jan was hospitalized while police registered a case vide FIR number 157/2017 and arrested four members of Mir family including her husband. Ironically, all the accused were bailed out within days as Police case was very weak, they said and demanded re-investiagion of the case and arrest of the accused.
