SrinagarThe Union Ministry of Industries and Commerce has asked the industrialists, IT companies, manufacturers and vendors in all states to register on Government e-Marketing Portal (GeM) which is going to replace DGS&D by 31 October 2017.
“You may be aware that DGS&D would be wound up by 31 October 2017 and there would be no further rate contracts available on DGS&D,” states a communication from Director General, DGS&D addressed to all the Chief Secretaries.
“I would request you to ask the concerned officials including those in industry/IT/Manufacturing and the District Magistrates to see that the vendors from your state are welcome to register and offer their products on GeM portal,” the communication said adding that the registration process on GeM portal is completely online requiring mainly information like PAN, MCA-21 and Aadhaar etc and can be done within 10 to 15 minutes on the dedicated portal.
“I would request that a special drive for on-boarding vendors on GeM portal may be organized in your state,” it said adding that GeM portal has been developed as the National Procurement Portal to replace DGS&D and ensure procurement of goods and services by the Central and State Government Departments and organizations in a transparent, efficient and accountable manner.
The GeM portal presently has 40000 registered users, 33000 products and 17 services. “On an average it is observed that the prices of goods on GeM portal are lower by 15-20% compared to the corresponding Rate Contract of DGS&D or even most of the tenders floated by various Government Departments,” it said adding that the key reason for competitive prices is easy registration of vendors and payment to be made within 10 days of successful receipt/acceptance of goods and services.
