PakharporaTraders at Pakharpora and its adjacent areas in Central Kashmir observed a shutdown on Monday after vendors occupying roads and Sumo Stand didnt pave for the macadamization process under taken by Roads and Building Department.
Locals told news agency CNS that from past six days, R&B Department has been requesting road side vendors and those who have established kiosks illegally at different places in Pakharpora to pave way for the macadamization process, but the unmoved vendors continue with their business thus halting the road repairing process.
Against the autocratic behavior of the vendors and their illegal occupation of roads, shopkeepers and Sumo drivers observed a shutdown in the area. They alleged that these vendors receive the patronage from the local police and have created illegal kiosks across Pakharpora, a charge denied by Police.
Reports said that all the shops and business establishments remained shut while Sumo vehicles didnt ply on the roads. As a mark of protest, the drivers closed the Syed Aali Sumo Stand.
We are unable to carry out the macadamization process due to illegal occupation of the roads by vendors, said an official from R&B Department.
