SrinagarArafat Sports prevailed over Islamia College of Science and Commerce football team in a friendly fixture played at the college sports ground on Saturday. With teams locked at 1-1 at the end of stipulated 90 minutes, the game had to be decided through penalty shoot-out in which Arafat Sports bettered their opponents by one goal.
The match was part of Islamia Colleges preparation for the upcoming Inter-College. The match was organized by ever active Department of Physical Education of Islamia College in collaboration with Shaheen Sports Syndicate Khawaja Bazar Nowhatta.
Both teams played the game with all the freedom in the world attacking each others goalpost several times but goals were had to come by. It was Jamsheed from the Arafat Sports who found the net in the 33rd minute to give his side 1-0 lead. With a goal in arrears, Islamia College upped the ante in search of an equalizer which came in the 67th minute thanks to a well-directed header from Waris to make it 1-1. The scoreline didnt change till the final whistle blew prompting a penalty shootout. The ensuing penalty shootout saw Arafat Sports covert four out of five while Islamia College could manage only three to give 5-4 scoreline in favour of visiting side.

Earlier at the start of the game, there was an introductory session of both teams with Tafazul Hussain former chairman, J&K Bank Sports Board and Prof. Muzafar Ahmed Khan Principal of the college.
Speaking on the occasion the chief guest congratulated players of both the teams for displaying wonderful skill during the course of the match and impressed upon them to continue to play the sport in an organised manner to achieve higher levels in the field. Khan while appreciating the young college team for playing lovely football assured them of all the logistic support from the college side.
He thanked Showkat Khanyari of Shaheen Sports Syndicate for providing awards to the teams and the officials of the match. The college is planning to organise more such matches in the days to come as the all important Inter-College football tourney nears.
