JammuDistrict Magistrate Jammu, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan today imposed ban on sale of plastic / nylon thread (manja) used for Kite-Flying under section 144 of CrPC.
The order shall come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force for a period of 60 days unless withdrawn earlier.
Any person who contravenes this order shall be liable to be punished in accordance with the provision of Section 188 of RPC.
As the kite flying season is going on and will continue for some more time period, it has been observed that plastic / nylon threads are being sold and used for kite flying. The use of such threads instead of traditional kite flying cotton threads involves threat to birds and human lives which is evident from the past reports. It is imperative to prevent any damage to humans and birds that made it essential to ban the use of such hazardous threads the order stated.
Pertinently, the Government has imposed ban on procuring stocking, sale and use of plastic /nylon strings used for kite flying under SRO 126
