IslamabadPakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday called Burhan Wani as the “start of a new chapter in Kashmir’s struggle for freedom”.
Sharif said that India cannot subdue the call for freedom by using force in Kashmir valley, reported Geo News.
He said the struggle for freedom in Kashmir is “indigenous and not supported by any outside power.”
Sharif’s remarks came on the first death anniversary of militant commander Burhan Wani.
“Burhan Wani is the start of a new chapter in Kashmir’s struggle for freedom,” said the prime minister.
Meanwhile Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that Kashmiris have a right to self-determination and that Burhan Wani had made a sacrifice that is “testimony” of his and his generation’s “resolve” against “Indian atrocities.”
Sacrifices of Burhan Wani and generations against Indian atrocities are a testimony of their resolve, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) DG said on Twitter.
Burhan rally held in Birmingham
A protest was held here Saturday coinciding with the first death anniversary of Burhan Wani despite objections by the Indian Government. The protest took place in Birmingham city centre this afternoon.
India had protested to the UK over the rally to mark “Burhan Wani Day” here, questioning how the British government can allow the “glorification of terrorists” on its soil.
The Indian High Commission in London wrote to the UK Foreign Office to register its protest.
The rally was organised by UK-based Kashmiri groups to mark the first death anniversary of the commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit killed by Indian armed forces in the Kashmir Valley on July 8 last year.
