One would find that Kashmir has been the key to the dispute between India and Pakistan since their independence from the British in 1947. Each country claims Kashmir as a part of its territory. As a result of a rebellion in 1947 and the subsequent wars between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, the area is separated by a line of control. Since 1989 the controversy over Kashmir has taken a violent turn in the valley; the Kashmir people themselves have taken up arms against the India.
Indias relations with Pakistan have been anything but cordial since both became independent on August 15 ,1947 following the partition of the subcontinent and winding up their colonial empire by the British. India also wants to be on friendly terms with Pakistan as Kashmir issue has become the thorniest of all Indo-Pak Problems. India is very much anxious to have a nice relations with Pakistan. The need of the hour is Unity and strength.
