SrinagarA round table conducted by Civil Society group, Kashmir Centre of Social and Developmental Studies (KCSDS) Thursday unanimously resolved that the GST in its present form was not unacceptable.
KCSDS convened a round table conference of cross-section of civil society including trade bodies, representatives of political parties and civil society formations on GST here on Thursday. The issue was discussed threadbare and various aspects which will be adversely impacted by it were highlighted, a statement from the group said.
It was unanimously resolved that the GST in its present form is completely unacceptable and stands rejected for application to J&K state, the statement said.
During a prolonged discussion, it was also resolved that J&K government should come out with an alternative model of GST, which takes care of fiscal autonomy, as well as economic realities of the state.
It was further resolved that J&K government should put the said model in public domain for thorough discussion by various stakeholders for their concrete suggestions.
All the participants were of the view that in case J&K government is insistent on implementing the central act, Civil Disobedience movement will be launched, the responsibility of the consequences would squarely fall on the government
Among those who participated in the RTC were representatives from Concerned Citizens group, RTI Movement, Coalition of Civil Societies, National Conference, CPI-M, PDF,AIP, KCCI,FCIK, KEA,KEF, KTMF academicians traders and lawyers.
