SrinagarPolice have identified a dozen accused allegedly responsible for the killing of police officer Ayub Pandith here in old Srinagar city.
Police on Saturday said that it arrested three more accused while two accused (both wounded) had already been arrested after the lynching incident.
Pertinently, a group of people beat a police officer to death after he allegedly was taking photographs of people outside the grand mosque in Nowhatta Srinagar on Thursday night.
The lynching incident occurred on the night of Shab-e-Qadr when people were busy in offering prayers in the grand mosque. Police had earlier denied that victim was associated with JKP department. However, after investigation the deceased police officer was identified as Ayub Pandit, a Deputy Superintendent of police rank officer.
Three more persons allegedly involved in the mob lynching have been arrested, Jammu and Kashmir’s top cop said here today.
Police Chief said that they have identified 12 persons in connection with the case and five of them have been arrested.
Police have resolved not to spare the people behind the act. It is the resolve of Jammu and Kashmir Police that we are not going to spare these rascals,” Police Chief SP Vaid said adding that the investigation in the case is on and everything would be clear once the report comes.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police has shunted out a senior officer from the area where the incident took place.
In an order issued on Friday night, Director General of Police S P Vaid ordered the transfer of Superintendent of Police (North Srinagar) Sajad Khaliq Bhat.
Bhat, an additional SP rank officer, has been asked to report to the police headquarters. Sajad Ahmad Shah, the additional SP (Traffic City), Srinagar, will look after the duties of the SP North Srinagar, the order read.
Police forms SIT to probe lynching
A day after the gruesome lynching of a police officer drew outrage across Kashmir, police on Saturday formed a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to probe the barbaric incident.
The DIG will form a SIT which will probe and nab all the culprits who are involved in the gruesome lynching of the police officer.
Police sources said that the SIT will be headed by SP North Sajad Shah.
DSP, Muhammad Ayoub Pandit of Nowpora, Khanyar in Srinagar was lynched to death by a furious mob in Old Citys Jamia Masjid area in Nowhatta on Thursday.
