Srinagar: A civilian was injured after firing broke out between militants and armed forces on Srinagar-Jammu Highway near Qazigund in South Kashmir Saturday morning.
A civilian Arif Ahmad was injured when suspected militants fired at an army convoy in Anantnag early on Saturday, police said.
Arif, who works for a construction company in Banihal, was driving behind a security forces vehicle when it came under attack.
“Arif, a resident of Bakhshiabad, Anantnag, arrived at the public health centre in Vesu (in Anantnag) in an injured condition and reported that at around 5 am when he was on his way to Banihal unknown militants fired at two security vehicles which were moving ahead of his car, he said.
Arifs condition is slated to be stable, the spokesperson added. He has been referred to the SMHS hospital here for specialised treatment.
About 20 empty cases of AK ammunition have been recovered from the spot, the official said.
A case has been registered and investigations have begun, police said.
On June 3, one Indian Army soldier was killed in a similar attack by militants on an army convoy in Qazigund.
