SRINAGAR: Upper reaches in the Kashmir Valley Wednesday experienced fresh snowfall resulting in considerable drop in the temperature in plains.
A Met department spokesman said the Western Disturbance (WD), still active in the region, will intensify from today. However, it will further intensify tomorrow and December 14, he said adding that there could be moderate to heavy snowfall on the upper reaches, particularly in Pirpanchal range.
Leh in Ladakh region experienced fresh snowfall this morning, a report said adding that roof tops, electric poles and roads had turned white, resulting in severe cold.
People in Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, and border town of Kargil on Srinagar-Leh national highway continued to shiver due to severe cold. It was minus 17 degree at Drass while minus 8.2 degree was recorded at Kargil.
The Met department has predicted more snow or rain in Ladakh region till December 18 in view of the WD, originating in Arabian sea and entering the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan.
